entry 1: what's it like to sing.
singing is the most intruitive thing i have learnt. it was my first real instrument and after many years of searching for a instrument that i can truly internalise, i still thing that voice is the closest. perhaps it makes a big difference when it is my primary instrument.
i have been tired recently. i think it may be because singing is really quite tiring. depends on the singer. when i perform fever, for example, i need to emulate the double bass being plucked. i want the sound to bend slightly, like a stretched string being relaxed. i want the sound to eventually settle on the right note and fade smoothly like a freely vibrating string. i want the consonants to be close to a plucked string, along the lines of bm, but very heavy on the humming. i want to imagine the room in dim red light and alot of smoke, a few customers at the bar watching a typical jazz number, it's quiet and the solo enchants all the middleaged men drinking alcohol, with the double bass supporting her part. singing can be a tiresome thing. i havent inclued choreography.
entry 2: why i float
eric asked me to type something on the blog, along the lines of why i float. i did not join at the beginning of my freshman year (and possibly got condamned) because i worked right up to the weekend before school started. but at the end of year 1 i was offered a place in the committee. and i thought, why not? i had many friends that were going into the committee already and so this should probably be fun. so i joined, taking the role of dept head. and eventually we finished well. second year, i was offered a seat again, and so i took it up eventually to be the production manager. it was an experience to handle people and an integrated process. and juggle my other stuff. in year 3, i took it again, because i felt that after 2 years, there was much i can do to help teach, and it's really quite helpful for me to be around, to give others a chance to learn thru the path i took. and so now this year, as float head. i think i ought to write more but i'm like more than too tired to think of what to write lol.

chee yen once commented that i am fortunate to be doing the things that i like. perhaps. but from today's rehearsal i could feel how much i still feel for resonance and the whole idea of music, fun and games. the guys group has let me let my hair loose on many occasions, the shanghai tan group always interesting (although today i managed to miss my entry twice by falling asleep), and the ms indpt/fever group always trying very hard (rfys should be trying hard. that is a good trend.) and keeping the logistics after the whole show felt satisfying. we are fortunate to have people with the various expertise to keep everything going, from management, to music, to even weird things like taking photographs. this group of ppl have accumulated much talents and abilities without knowing it. perhaps it all comes from a very dubious relation between members knowing music and their ability to know many other things as well (or know music to a crazy degree like the past three music directors)
amazing bunch we have here. i look forward to our concert. probably the first concert that i feel the urge to advertise for in the past 11 years.

someone commented that i lost weight. i wish. dun think it really happened, i just look more pitiful, that's all. sui fai and yi fei working on some stuff outside, and it's already so late that i dun even know if i feel like sleeping. i'm quite tired though. of listening to tons of ppl tell me tons of advice. of having to go through the day and solving only very little each time. of having to leave for extended periods because of my weird commitments outside of hall. there's a time for everything, but i'm really feeling the strain that when you are holding such a post, there really is no such thing as time for anything else. i overheard someone in the science canteen saying that a hall rag head gets 100 points. i find that difficult to believe. maybe i heard wrong.
i have yet to apologise to audrey regarding the amount of distress i might have given her during the last practice session. i was really impatient with how things were going, and sick of hearing people still suggesting new ideas. but to be fair about things, i am the coordinator after all and so these things should be under my charge and not being run by others such as audrey. so i cant blame ppl for taking over but not running it the way i want it. that's just being a bastard. million thanks to audrey for putting up with me. i think she's probably terribly afraid of me by now. 5 songs, 1 arrangement, 1.5 groups coordination, and videography consultant. my role in this concert is somewhat bigger than i imagined. and i dunno why i havent died yet. i did drop the alumni choir. it was too difficult to hold on to and there was a change of repertoire which was particularly difficult to accept. i was never good with memorising scores. thank goodness most of the other commitments are not active now. i was telling wailun how perhaps i could spend more time on the things i really want to do next year. i am eyeing the post that i owe ppl.
oh yah, thanks to jiahui for listening to my frustrations and giving aadvice. i must admit that after i finished venting i was sort of too tired to continue the conversation. so it was like real idiotic. lol.
