exams are about 25% thru. mine hasnt started. some luckier ppl have finished their exams.

finishing my exams has relatively no impact for me this time. my degree class has been more or less fixed at the end of year 3, i finished my level 4 modules last semester, my fyp last last week. technically i have already graduated. this last three papers serve for me to finish my nanoscience minor, which has no impact. it apparently doesnt even appear on my graduation certificate. and to top it off in the most meaningless way possible, my last paper is a level 1 gek which has been a frustration because i learnt very little from it, despite alot of expectation to be going thru a fun gek. it's one of those things that make you finish in a very "oh, that's it?" manner.

that is not to say that it isnt representative of my experience here at nus.

waiting for practice to start... today is not a study day, spent it writing samples of 5 midis, which i pretty much come to like in the course of writing. we should try some of the pieces one day, quite a waste to have all these scores and not do anything with them.

back to reading story books.

as an aspiring educator i have perhaps more critical views on teaching methods that i have encountered. i shall use this post to condemn my gek lecturer. (you can ask me separately for who he is and what module is it. i wun have video evidences tho cos i cant seem to download the webcasts as solid evidence for all future generations to see.)

i dunno if he simply has no idea what he is teaching, or just that he is purposely teaching wrong things and waiting to be corrected. i suspect it's the later. it doesnt work because the population is roughly divided into 2: 1. people who know their stuff and finds his lecture boring and since there is webcast anyway, decides not to attend lectures. thus they are not there to correct his mistakes. 2. people who are lost and blindly believe what he says in lecture. thus they wouldnt have known about the mistakes, much less to correct them.

who in this world would believe a person who tells you that you have a .6 chance of making at least $40 profit by betting $1 500 times on '5' at odds of 1 to 35? if you didnt know roulette rules btw, there's 38 possible outcomes. go figure.

who else in this world might believe a man who tells you you should apply the "mini-max" principle by choosing the maximum of your loss cases, that is, spot the case that you have the highest (ie least) negative number, and choose that strategy, while blindly ignoring the fact that the neighbouring strategy has only positive outcomes. but you shouldnt choose it because it doesnt give you a negative number and therefore does not come under the "mini-max" consideration. omg i was screaming many vulgarities (from my room) when i realised what he has been teaching in class.

if it's the first case, ie he doesnt know what he is teaching, then i dunno how he got his degree or get employed (ok on that point maybe i do. people generally know how much confidence i have in the world-class university i'm studying in.) if it's the second case, it's not working and it's just hurting everyone else who came in to learn, and entrusted to you that you will teach them proper things.

i have another 3 webcasts to watch for this module. pls let me keep my blood pressure down while completing my revisions.

if you my dear friend is considering taking a maths gek soon, pls check with me to know which is this lecturer that you probably might want to avoid. i have shot him down quite bad in the online feedback, but only after it has closed have i watched the really really bad webcasts. i should have shot him to ten feet under if i only knew earlier.

study week is an excellent time to learn new knowledge. not only am i learning things that i have never heard of before in lecture on my three modules, i've just learnt a little about warren buffet, as well as read another good book from agatha christie. three more books in line from the library (2 mystery 1 investment. yes i have a recent interest in learning about this field) and 'next' is still waiting on my table as well.

thanks for the extended study week! XD

i dunno what the hell i'm doing. i've been up since 9am. now going to sleep soon but have to let my hair dry. i was watching 2 webcasts in the study room earlier in the morning and afternoon, then read one set of notes there in the evening before going down to central library to study another 2 sets (real slow huh.)

and now chatting with yedan. nice... it's been a while since i've heard from her... and i am suddently reminded of how things were like when she was still only about to leave. haha. i dunno.

thought process.

i think something is what i want. it looks like it. but then rationally speaking i just shouldnt have it. so therefore i should give up and wait for something else that i might want.

it might not be better. no one promised waiting means you'll find something better. but at least there is a chance that something else will come along and do a decent fit. and that rationally speaking you might be able to justify yourself.

but waiting seems to be the better option. sometimes you also have to consider whether you're suitable for the thing. it sort of have to work both ways.

i just had a dream. it was the kind of dream in which i tried to to check that it was not a dream, that it was real and so wow i have finally done that thing i wanted but refused to do. and yes it was real enough, i remember walking thru places and coming home, people were there, it was real.

then i woke up.

which means i still havent done it. and in real life i'm stubborn and insistent about it, so i guess i will never do it. and then i start to want to sing 98 degree's she's out of my life, because it has that one line which startled me in j1 and until now it still does. and i've learnt that love needs expression, but i've learnt much too late.

normally during exam period the blogs will increase in frequency, a sign that i am finding channels to vent my whatever built up emotions. currently exams are two weeks away but i have fyp stuff in my face so here i am typing as well.

just want to record a few things before they leave my memory for good. went out with jiahui on saturday, which was like the first time i saw her in donkey years. so we went wondering around ps for the afternoon haha =). then at night went to watch cheer chen's concert, which turned out very good. i think she's like fantastic, although towards the end after countless encores i thought she was getting quite tired despite her efforts to continue performing. she didnt manage to do one or two lines of running notes as perfectly as she could usually, but you really must applaud her for all her efforts put into making the concert a memorable one. she like challenged herself a great deal to make the concert special sia. i still think she's afraid of heights, but she did pretty much better at her last elevated stunt (which was btw fantastic stuff.) she re-inspired me about all the performing stuffs. hais. she's definitely worth watching if she comes again, it'll be a concert well worth going for. mayday was like on the loud side so i guess i would prefer watching cheer instead =p

fypfypfyp.

recently it seems that people are breaking down. i sense that i may have a role to play and the repercussions might just be as bad as i suspect, but i also dun think i should be playing that role anymore. it's that kind of long term negative investment that does no one any good.
